Rye collection

Rye is a cereal plant belonging to the Poaceae family and mainly represented by the Secale cereale species.

Historically, there has been little maintenance or coding of rye resources at INRAE. The collection was built up following surveys in the Massif Central and collaboration with a Portuguese researcher. This explains the higher proportion of accessions from these two geographical areas in our collection.

The Secale cereale collection comprises just under eighty local populations, mainly from the Massif Central and Portugal, of which 50 are part of the national collection. This very modest collection is probably not representative of what may have existed in France in the past.
